The Storm is Coming: What Does Scandal’s Rainy Shoot Tell Us?
We’re only a couple of weeks away from the season 3 premiere of Scandal and Gladiators everywhere are preparing by re-watching and overanalyzing everything. That’s our duty as obsessed fans. Shonda Rhimes put us all into overdrive when her team released pictures from the “Storm is Coming” photoshoot the cast did and of course we’re trying to crack the code. WHAT IS SHE TRYNA TELL US?!? I’m not sure but I will guess.
“The Storm is Coming” is clearly telling us that it’s about to be raining chaos on season 3. I mean we knew that much when the last word of season 2 was “Dad?” But in case we weren’t nervous enough, BRING DOWN THE RAIN!
Ok so Abby is in the storm giving her best “come hither” look. I don’t know why she’s tryna make segzy happen but bless her heart. I take it that her and David are gonna resume having the most uncomfortable to watch sex? Maybe there’s a storm in Abby’s loins. I don’t damb know.
But look at Quinn. She’s in this blood red trench coat, and is the only person in this shoot rocking color, might I add. I think we’re going to see Baby Huck really grow into her killing abilities and start slaying folks. Also, she looks rather calm in this storm that’s raging around her. We’re used to nervous Quinn but it seems she found some grounding.
And then there’s Mellie, who is basically welcoming the storm. She’s all “COME AT ME, BRO! I’M READY!” Soooo I expect her to be even more conniving than we’re used to. Mellie ain’t gon take no prisoners in this storm. She’s gon be the one chasing it, if anything.
Two out of these three ain’t got no umbrellas, but they don’t look bothered by it at all.
Now look at Huck and David. Both men are sans umbrella and exposed to this storm. Huck is rocking a hood and David is holding his coat closed. Neither one of them look too sure about this, which is so different from the ladies up top who don’t seem that affected.
We know Jake is getting out the whole because he’s now a fulltime cast member so you KNOW he’s gonna be all tangled up in Olivia’s web and drama. And look at Cyrus Beene the based goon, who is holding an umbrella that’s the same color as Quinn’s trench. Might he be ordering some bloodshed, as opposed to Quinn being responsible for some with her own hands? Maybe. We know not to trust Cy too much.
Now getchu a piece of Harrison.
The gooning gladiator in gingham has an umbrella but refuses to use it on some “NAH I DON’T NEED THIS!” That cocky bastard! I love he. Harrison is basically saying although he has the option for protection in the storm, he chooses to be in the open. We know he loves a good confrontation and if my Brolivia Pope theory is true, then we KNOW Harrison is gonna play a major part in season 3’s chaos.
And let’s get into Fitz and Olivia.
President Ghost is looking like someone stole his favorite teddy bear and ripped one eye off. Poor thing is looking all dejected and downtrodden. He has protection from the storm but he looks like that doesn’t matter. He lost his boo, Liv and him crawling back to Mellie probably broke his spirit. Woo woo woo, Fitz!
Meanwhile…
Olivia is in this storm with her umbrella and this HEAVEN WHITE COAT!!! Can we all just take a moment to give praises and pay #AMISH to this FIERCE white trench??? I mean YESSS! And the two panels are everything. Goodness.
Anyway, the storm surrounds Olivia and like always, she stays calm. Even though I’m not sure how with all the madness that’s surely about to happen.
I AM SO READY!!! I’ve spent FOUR whole months preparing for the return of my beloved Scandal and it’s almost here! You can tell I’m thirsty because I probably did too much reading into these pics. HA! I’m parched. I need waitorade. SOON COME, THOUGH! 15 days left!

Oh, I am swooning over Harrison and his “don’t mess with me” stare. Is there any significance to Harrison and Jake both having PLAID umbrellas?
Olivia is her usual picture of cool calm in the midst of chaos with just a hint of a smile. And THAT TRENCH COAT!
OMG! I was just going to mention that! Maybe I’m reading too much into it.. but is it an indication they will work together to help Olivia? Or maybe they are connected in some way we don’t know yet?
I was thinking the same thing. They are working towards the same thing – protecting Olivia – but maybe not together? You could analyze these photos six ways to Sunday and not have an answer, but is it SO MUCH FUN.
I as well was thinking the same thing They are def. connected in some way. Their methods in helping Olivia will greatly differ seeing as how Jake prefers to not get wet, or maybe he just wants his dad and his goons to think that.
IDK about others but Quinn’s prediction I feel is spot on and Huck’s def. gonna feel guilty for turning her into a blood thirsty psycho.

I believe we will see David be a little bit more cagey this season using some of the techniques he learned from OPA.
The plaid umbrellas are different colors. We know Jake has always been curious about Henderson, I mean Harrison. Is Jake going to try to take Harrison’s place as Liv’s true protector? Plus Harrison’s umbrella is red so what does that say?
Liv has that white trench but her umbrella is gray. It’s going to be some tough times ahead for Ms. Pope.
Also, if you want a bit of “What’s Next,” USAToday has a bit of that for several shows.
Y’all know Shonda Rhimes doesn’t allow too much to be shared but Jeff Perry, who plays Cyrus says “We’re going to see the unfold(ing) of the biggest crisis for both Pope and Associates and the White House. And fans will be surprised to see who ends up working together to do what they think is best on those respective sides of the aisle.”
This is why I believe Jake and Harrison will either be working together or Jake will be jockeying for that confident place Harrison already holds.
I’m doing the math and I think I may need to order me some oxygen. We have 2 more weeks of Breaking Bad and only 1 week to catch out breath from whatever madness Vince Gilligan drops on us, before Shonda comes along and knocks the wind back out.
I wonder if there is anything to the folks wearing color that isn’t red? Like Mellie (bless my Southern sisters soul) is wearing all black (and a fantastic statment piece of neckwear). But Huck is rocking that deep blue color under his hoodie. Abby and David are in all black — but my Jake (loved him since Grey’s) is in navy and bright white with the traditional green umbrella – not sure what navy could mean but he looks “lighter” than much of the rest of the cast. My spirit animal Cyrus is in grey…looking a touch wrinkled compared to the rest of the cast — could he be considering the lighter side of life?
I think the navy blue could remind us that old Jake is a military guy. Navy blue suit taking the place of his dress blues. I also think Cy’s gray could be because he’s neither good guy white nor entirely bad guy black. He’s in between. He’s gray. That said, I think having Abby & David in all black doesn’t mean they are bad guys, but rather unifies them as a couple. Another unifying fact for these 2 is that neither have unmbrellas, but neither appear upset about it.

Maybe he will be demoted from his position as Olivia’s number one protector because Jake will take over his spot. Hmmmm….
Harrison’s pose reminded me of when a veteran cop gets down to examine a crime scene closely. To me his posture is “this is messy but we’ll get to the bottom of it.”

Huck wins this photo shoot hands down! And Kerry/Liv is wearing that white trench coat. And like you said, Fitz looks so forlorn. Mellie is looking like Diana Ross’ “I’m comin’ out! I want the world to know! Got to let it show!” I guess she’s going for hers now that Fits is back in her lap again! LOL!

Methinks you’re spot on with the colour analysis, Luvvie. I noticed madam Quinn’s red trench and too-serene smile from the get go. I did a little praise dance when CoYUMbus dropped Harrison’s pic. Lol! I love Abby’s pic though. I also think she’s hiding a gun under that trench, cuz you know she’s crazy.
You know what else I think? Daddy Goon is gonna release Jake from the hole and force #Pake to make their ‘relationship’ public in order to deflect attention from Fitzgate. Like, ‘An affair with the President?! Nawl. I have a boyfriend. President Grant set us up a few months ago (pointed stare into the camera just for Fitz).’ That’s what’s gonna get Jake a conditional release. I, for one (maybe the only one) am here for #Pake or #Olake or whatever their ship name is. ¡Viva Jake!

Harrison and his “get low” stance is EVERY mah fuggin thing!!! You hear me! When a bad storm hits they tell you to get low and take cover. You see that? He is not about to shield himself with the umbrella. No distractions, this dude sees everything concerning Liv. Now, I am inclined to raise my brow on the fact this his umbrella is red. Plaid like Jakes which can mean “it’s complicated, not as straight forward as things should be”
Cy and Quinn with the red. *sigh* Both are quite rebellious and wouldn’t it be a great twist if she were his Huck. Cy lives to be the boss and creating his own kind of B613 is not out of character for him. Just a thought.

His umbrella and life are misty blue. However, let us not dismiss the message from her SHIRT. Are those roses,As in everything is coming up roses? *shots fired* Whaaaaaat?

She is the hot air(you know kicked up from all that hot passion) which caused this storm but yet she comes out in her Nun-esque coat with a smirk on her face like “this storm can’t see me; I can make a call and walk on all of this water.” NOTHING about her facial expression says that she is the least bit worried about the effects of this storm.

We must’ve heard “… pregnant?” 20 times in about 5 seconds echoing across our section. And hey, maybe she is. But that dress gathers thickly, all at the front, right at her belly. I remember reading speculation regarding a possible pregnancy when she quietly went off and got married over the summer. I paid it no mind since I had heard that she prefers to keep her private life private and didn’t pay it any mind at the time.
Bottom line is, she may be. Either way we’ll know in a matter of months. I will say I have noticed that everything she wears lately seems to have ruffles of gathering in the front.
yaaaaaaas that’s what I heard too.. they SHOULD include it in the show…man the drama of bearing the President Ghost’s child from their steamy love scene in the data center closet.. I cant even begin to wait for the season to fire up!
