My people! Welcome to this week’s episode of Rants & Randomness.

Back in June, I was part of the founding team for Share the Mic Now – an online campaign to magnify Black women and the important work they are doing in order to catalyze change. On June 10, 50 Black women spoke from the Instagram accounts of prominent white women, and the content was seen by billions of people around the world.

This episode is with my Share the Mic Now partner and boo Sophia Bush. The day after I spoke from her account for Share the Mic Now, we went live on her Instagram account and talked through some of the things we learned from the day and the things we were seeing in the world at the time. We’re talking about the paralysis of perfection, the importance of speaking up, what spending your privilege looks like, and why we’ve got to commit to standing up for each other in visible ways and hold ourselves accountable to showing up.

Sophia Bush is an actress, an activist, director, and producer. She starred as Brooke Davis in The WB/CW drama series One Tree Hill, and as Erin Lindsay in the NBC police procedural drama series Chicago P.D. She is also known for her philanthropy work and social activism, including her work for the Time’s Up movement and DoSomething.org.

Much love to Chicago Recording Company, where I get the help needed to make these episodes come to life – even recording from home.
