The Book of Joshua: War, Google Maps and Monopoly
Sooo I just finished the book of Joshua, and it made perfect sense why Moses ain’t make it to the Promised Land. CUZ WHO GON DO ALL THIS FIGHTING AT 120 YEARS OLD?!? Get somebody else to do it! And that person wae Joshua, son of Nun. He was young and spry.
God told Joshua “I got you like I got Moses. Don’t fear. With you. Go forth.” Then straight dried up the river Jordan LIKE THE BOSS HE IS so they could cross it. Their ancestors saw Him part the red Sea. They got to see Him dry up the River Jordan. On some “I want these Israelites to know I’m THAT DUDE.” 😤😤😤
And shoutout to Rahab, for letting her faith save her and her family. She negotiated her safety by hiding the Israelites spies and her lineage lived because of it. We love to see a faithful and strategic queen!
The Promised Land wasn’t something to slide into turnkey. Nah. The Israelites had to be at WAR for decades to get settled into it because they had to drive out and conquer those who were already settled there. Old Testament colonialism indeed. But God told them He was going to give those people into their hands because they were living so foul that they basically weren’t worth saving, which OOP.
SHOUTOUT to Josh for being faithful ALL HIS LIFE, though. He was obedient through and through to God’s orders and always claimed victory because of it.That whole book is War, Google Maps and Monopoly. The Israelites finally got their Promised Lands. God did everything He told them He’d do because they held up their end of the bargain by keeping the covenants and oath they had sworn. And they were deeply rewarded for it. “One of you can put a thousand to flight because the Lord your God fights for you just as He Promised.” – Joshua 23:10
And the most prominent battle was the fall of Jericho. That is staying with me so lemme talk about that for a little bit.
The Fall of Jericho has so many lessons in that short story. Not only because it was the first major victory for the Israelites in Canaan.
1. The power of obedience
2. The illogical way God gives breakthrough
3. The importance of everyone doing their part.
4. The importance of TIMING
5. The need to KEEP MARCHING
6. Silence as a necessary tool
7. Shouting when it calls for it
The Israelites were told to walk around Jericho once a day for 6 days, and then 7 times on the 7th day. That’s a total of 13 times. It was the 13th time that they had to BLOW THE WHISTLE 😏 and claim their victory. And the walls came tumbling down. But they had to be quiet until it was time to SHOUT. They had to be obedient to every instruction they were given. And then they popped out and showed 🥷 they had God on their side and they were given the ultimate YES.
What I took from it? You might need to put your head down in your toiling season as you work and wait for your breakthrough. Don’t quit marching if you’re on assignment. Put your head down and do the work. But when harvest season comes? GET LOUD. Take up the space. Let them hear you! Whisper when you need, SHOUT when it’s time.
Joshua 6 is AN OFFERING of wisdom. A WORD.
Joshua’s leadership of Israel was strong and stable. Besides Achan, folks stayed in line. That one time the Reubenites and Gadites made an altar, they got hemmed up QUICK but they said they made it to remind future generations that they’re all part of the same covenant. Which: respect. But yes. On to the book of Judges. I know the Israelites act uppp there. 🥴😩
