Michelle Williams Covers an African Gospel Song with “Say Yes” and I’m Jamming!
Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child fame and PoorMichelle.com shade came out with a new song yesterday. It’s featuring Beyonce and Kelly Rowland but I don’t think they’re necessary. She needed their name for the boost, doe.
I listened to it and it was familiar as hell. It’s because it’s a cover of a popular African gospel song. I say “African” because I’m not really sure where we kicked it off but South Africans sing it, Nigerians, Ghanaians…
Michelle musta went to an African friend’s church and got inspired to record one of the songs from praise and worship time.
You can even tell from the opening and the beat. That is straight AfroBeat. She did good with this. Although it’s “When Jesus SAYS yes, nobody can say no.” Not “say yes.” Also, she forgot the “Up Jesus Down satan” that’s supposed to be at the end. But it’s cool. She can cook.
I’ve had it on repeat since last night because I’m a sucker for AfroGospel.
Get you MORE LIFE and watch the Soweto Gospel Choir’s rendition that had me having my own little praise and worship session at home. And it was just them at rehearsal! Chile, I LIVE!
Before you press play, please beware of your hips as they start to move on their own.
Update: the video is now available! Check it out.
You can’t outdo Black people.
Did y’all listen to the track and twerk for Jesus? It’s ok.
Michelle may fall short with secular music….but she does an amazing job with Gospel music.
Thanks for sharing!
You, ma’am, just preached a word.
I think she should hire Bro Franklin as her back up dancer and he can juke one time for Jesus offa this!
OMG! I wanna see Bro Franklin get his LIFE to this. That will be priceless.
I sure did azonto for the Lawd listening to this… I loved it!
YESSSSS!!! I hit my azonto for sure.
i KNEW i heard afrobeat in that song. i knewed it. yes. “knewed” is a word.
Knewed is def a word. I don’t care if the dictionary refuses to acknowledge that. (-__-)
Why did I have to go check out the website, Poor Michelle? And then I laughed. The internet has no chill. For real.
No chill to be found anywhere.

Luvvie! I can’t “work it” like that in the club much less during praise and worship (I’m jealous, a hater, and messy). But, I am NOT going to hell because of you and that Soweto Gospel Choir twerking for Jesus. Where’s my holy oil? I want to leave you but, I can’t! #[email protected]
Look. A little hip twerk ain’t never hurt nobody.
Lololol! #heathens lol. No twerking in church thank u

Maaaannnn! This is making me hit my azonto so hard (in my head, cuz I’m not skilled in actual dancing* Pull up selecta!!! *azontos for the Lord*
I’d love to see the Soweto Gospel Choir in action one day. I’ll be the one white girl dancing in the aisle.
I didn’t know what to expect from this, but I’m PLEASANTLY surprised. Good for her.
Wait now… are they droppin in low for the lawd? wow
They already took down the Michelle version (of course) but I was really loving the original!
WAYMENT the lady in the Fruit Punch colored crushed velvet sweatpants on the far left just broke it all the way down after that kick and hip thrust!!
This is my first time hearing the song, and I really like it. But can someone explain why they have a Beyonce still as the thumbnail for this video?
Such a strong message for women of color. Yes, we can support each other. Way too many shows on tv (which I watch daily) saying otherwise. Good for them! That song is hot! The Soweto Gospel Choir singing it live is HAWTTER!!!
I wish they could edit in an “S” behind “SAY” but what do I know? I like it ennyweigh.
It’s “SAY” yes for us because we got the lazy tongue, this ain’t my language, I’ll screw it up as much as I want to and don’t you dare say anything about my Ebonics thang going on.
Ok so i love the song but Jesus is saying no to booty shorts on Beyonce
Ok? Glad I wasn’t the only one who saw Bey’s booty shorts fir Jesus!
This song has been on repeat all morning, I love it!
Lawd help me, I went to poormichelle.com and SMH (I think I broke something)…who dedicated a whole website to this chile ???? MSH< SMH, *snap* I broke my neck
