On this episode, I’m feeling good about a student who turned me into his Black History Month project, ranting about how cleanliness is next to godliness and some people are not being so godly, and spotlighting the Queen Bey book that I contributed to. My interview is with the brilliant wellness maven, Latham Thomas.

Feel Good

I’m feeling good about a student who turned me into his Black History Month project. An elementary school class did a Black History Month project where they made a poster of different figures who they admired and one of those figures was me. They used red construction paper to create a blazer for me, some black jeans, some matching shoes and I am holding a copy of my book. It is so cool because I remember when there wasn’t a version of me to look to so I essentially had to become the example that I needed to see, so knowing that there are kids who see me and know that there is so much that is possible for them made me really emotional.

My Rant

In this week’s rant, I have to talk about people’s hygiene, or lack thereof.  I realize that not everybody washes their hands all the time, which we all know because we’ve all seen people who walked out of the bathroom after they flush the toilet without actually washing their hands. I’m going to have to institute a dap only policy for people when I see them in public. It doesn’t mean I don’t love you, it doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate you, but for my own health, I need to just start dapping folks up.

My Randomness

My spotlight for this episode is a dope book called Queen Bey: A Celebration of the Power and Creativity of Beyonce Knowles Carter.  This book is a project by Veronica Chambers who is a four-time New York Times best selling author. She decided to drop this anthology that’s essentially giving all the props to Beyonce because she deserves all the props and she tapped on me to contribute an essay in this book. My essay is the second in the book, right after Veronica’s. My essay’s called, Beychella is Proof that Beyonce is the Greatest Performer Alive. I’m Not Arguing. And this book also includes essays by folks like Lena Waithe, Kid Fury, Brittney Cooper, Melissa Harris-Perry. I’m in amazing company.
