On this episode, I’m feeling good about working out (and it’s not just the endorphins, y’all). I’m ranting about the fact that President Trump is separating children from their parents at the border. I’m sending love to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, A.K.A. the Blacksonian. Plus, I’m sitting down with the Chief Marketing Officer at Endeavor, Bozoma Saint John, to talk about her life as an advertising badass and the importance of authenticity.

Feel Good

If you know me, you know that exercise is my kryptonite. I hate running. I hate the gym. I hate waking up early and staying up late so I can turn my body into a bulletproof masterpiece.

And that’s why I am so proud of myself right now because I have been working out with a personal trainer for the last four weeks. It hasn’t been easy, and some days it feels like the endorphin high isn’t worth the torture, but I am glad that I am getting healthier, happier, and stronger every time I lace up my sneakers.

My Rant

According to the Associated Press, the government is separating 65 kids from their parents every single day. That’s almost 2,500 immigrant children that have been torn from their families since May, in a country that is supposed to be the epitome of morality, decency, and justice.

This tragedy is happening on our watch, and I hope that the stories that are being shared in the news will motivate you to take action. Get loud on social media. Reach out to government officials. Donate to organizations like the ACLU, RAICES, and the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights – every cent counts in the fight to protect families.

My Randomness

And as President Trump’s policies disproportionately affect Latinx immigrants, it reminds me how important it is for us to know our own history. For hundreds of years, that story has been based on the accomplishments of European Americans – not immigrants who fought their way across our southern border, or millions of Africans who were brought to this country in chains.

That’s why I am so excited about the Blacksonian, or the National Museum of African American History and Culture. It opened on September 24, 2016, in Washington D.C., and there are over 36,000 artifacts from every time period in our nation’s history. Go visit this testament to the true history of the United States, and become a member to support the work that they are doing.

My Guest: Bozoma Saint John

My special guest for Episode 10 is the advertising badass Bozoma Saint John! Boz has worked with powerhouse brands like PepsiCo, Apple Music, and Uber, transforming the way that they leverage popular culture and the entertainment industry to attract new consumers. Today, she is the Chief Marketing Officer at Endeavor and a great friend, member of my glow-up squad, and a true FOMO-enabler – I am so excited to share her story and the power that she has found by being authentically herself.

Follow Boz all over these interwebs at @BadAssBoz.
