Eat or Be Eaten (with Myleik Teele) – Episode 2 of Rants & Randomness
But before I get into my conversation with Myleik, I start off this week’s episode with a story about a magical moment I recently experienced with the legendary Cicely Tyson at the Power Rising Summit. Cicely Tyson is a true icon and getting to meet her was EVERYTHING. Also she tweeted me and I got my life!
I rant about people’s entitlement to our platforms and how complete strangers will hit me up asking if I can promote their work. NOPE. Make a connection with people whose work you admire and then find organic ways to share what you do with them. Don’t just slide into DMs and demand that they promote you. Do better, folks.
I show love to one of my favorite books: Americanah by Chimamanda Adichie! Y’all, I read this book in one day. The book tells an amazing story about a Nigerian woman who moves to America and I relate strongly with the main character. Chimamanda Adichie is one of my favorite writers and I admire her gift. Basically, get a copy of this book and also check out her TED Talk, which is one of the most-viewed talks ever.
Finally, I talk with Myleik Teele, who is a true BAWSE and the big sister we all need. One of the things I admire about her is that she inspires women to show the grit behind the glory. Me and Myleik get real about going to therapy, the fear of success and how easy it is to be excellent. She dropped so many gems, y’all!
Check out Myleik’s podcast, My Taught You, and you can listen to the episode where she interviewed me HERE. You should also follow her on Twitter and Instagram so you can catch the gems of wisdom she drops! You can also sign up for her newsletter here.
