The Shonda Rhimes Takeover Continues on ABC This Fall
At the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon in 2012, the president of ABC (Anne Sweeney) presented Shonda Rhimes with an award. Before she did, she said “We usually give people a seat at the table. We gave Shonda the table.” WELL DAMB! It seems she wasn’t playing one bit because ABC just announced their Fall 2014 lineup and Shonda basically owns Thursday night, which is a huge night in TV.
PLUS, according to IndieWire (and everyone else) they just signed her to an 8-figure deal through 2018. YESSSS FOR THIS SHONDA TAKEOVER! Look at my auntie outchea prospering (Kerry’s my cousin and Shonda’s my aunty. Don’t argue with me).
Besides the fact that she’s an amazing storyteller, what I love about Shonda Rhimes as a showrunner is that she breaks up the monochrome of TV’s primetime casts. There’s people of color in her shows! Yes, it’s incredibly sad that in 2014 we still need to fist pump when we see non-white people on nighttime TV. But Shonda is doing her part because it’s not a matter of TRYING to include diversity. It’s just trying to make her shows reflect real life and that simple fact makes her shows better. LEARN FROM HER, OTHER TV EXECUTIVES!
Anyway, Thursday nights this fall on ABC have three Shonda Rhimes shows back-to-back-to-back. Our inability to deal (Scandal) has been moved up by an hour and there’s a new show in Shondaland. The times are in Eastern Time.
8pm – Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm – Scandal | 10pm – How to Get Away with Murder

YES, GAWD! My body is READY for all of it. Although, I’m clearly gon be passed out from too much excitement by 11pm ET on Thursdays. IT’S TOO MURCH!

YES on the Luvvie recaps of HTGAWM! I am ready for it! My only concern now is how am I going to explain my consistent Friday absences to the boss people at my job, because I’ma need a day to recover from what Shonda does to us!

Can’t wait for the fall shows! Have u seen the clips for the new show NBC will be premiering in November called “State of Affairs”? It stars Alfre Woodard as the POTUS (ALL the yesses that have EVER yessed in Yestown!) and Katherine Heigl ad a high ranking CIA operative who was engaged to POTUS’ son, but he was killed. I saw the clips and it looked good. But if they make the mistake of airing it opposite of Scandal, we’re going to have problems.
I saw the preview of State of Affairs. It does look really good. I hope they don’t air it the same time as Scandal or HTGAWM. It really would be unfortunate to have to choose. I want to support all these new quality shows.
It’s actually going to be on Monday nights @ 10 when it premieres in November. They’re moving “The Blacklist” to Thursdays @ 9 opposite Scandal starting 2/5/15.
Guess i’m never watching blacklist lol.
I may have to let go of my Heigel hate in order to see Alfre.
Ditto! Never cared for her as a die hard GA fan and care even less about her not so stellar movie career. But I maaaay be able to stomach her for Momma Alfre.

First thing I noticed lmao yes chile he grew up very nice! The white guy who talked to him just got killed off of ABC Family’s “Twisted” it’s also a good show his character was crazy, he’s a good actor.

So Yay for Shonda and taking over Thursday night. Not sure I can give the new show a go. As a law student it might be to hard to suspend disbelief. I’ll give it a shot though.
Lil Shonda about 5 yrs old sang in church, “This Little Light of Mine” and took it all the way serious. She is letting it shine, letting it shine, letting it shine! I am so here for every last moment of it. Shonda owns my tv and my feelings on Thursday nights!

I love Shonda’s diverse casting. Not just black & white, you see Latinos, Asians, gay, straight, the whole nine. She deserves all the coins thrown her way.
And multiplied diversity, at that! She doesn’t just throw one of each ethnicity/sexual orientation on the show (and one per show) as a “nod” to diversity.

As soon as I heard Viola and Shonda were working on the pilot, I warned folks not to bother me when the show comes on.
I wonder if any former Gray’s, Private Practice or Scandal stars will end up on her new show. She doesn’t play with fools who can’t act right, but she does keep using actors from her older shows who can behave.
Only person from a previous Shonda show I know will be in HTGAWM is Liza Weil, who played Amanda Tanner in season one of Scandal. There will be to many emotions in Thursdays from now on. Actually, there won’t. Thursdays as we know them are gone. From now on, the day between Wednesday and Friday shall be known as Shonday.
She’s gonna make it do what it do!
I’m all for Viola. If Thursday nights weren’t already interesting, Mama Shonda is taking it to a whole new level. Not only did she put Viola in the lead (and we love us some 2x Academy Award nominee) Viola Davis. But Shonda has tapped into one of my favorite movie series and cast the actor who played Dean Thomas from Happy Potter WHAT?!
Shonda knows what we like. The Scandal ratings, Twitter, and the water cooler says so. I can only imagine what this is going to be.

I was always gonna watch this show because: Viola Davis. But now that I’ve seen the trailer, I can’t wait for it!!! I’m sure Viola has been waiting for the opportunity to play a badass, shady character and I’m gonna relish watcher her almost as much as I know she’s gonna relish playing the devil. Lol!

See, if NBC knows what’s good- they will NOT put The Blacklist opposite SCANDAL. I really love that show, BUT I LOVE SCANDAL MORE!
