Were Simba and Nala, from the Lion King, Siblings?

I come to you in a sad, sad state.

On Twitter, someone brought up the fact that Simba and Nala from the Lion King are siblings. First, I was all “NAWL! That cannot be!” And then I thought about it. Mufasa and Scar were the only lion males in the entire pride. And Nala doesn’t look like any spawn of Scar’s. Maury will be all “YOU ARE NOT THE FATHER!” if anyone even thought it was a possibility. Which means that the only person who could be Nala’s daddy is… MUFASA.

simba nala lion king

This means Simba ended up getting with his half-sister. And they had a baby at the end of the Lion King. And part 2 was about that baby.

*faints*

My childhood is dead. Let me just lay here and roll around on carpet for a little bit.

Also, this might explain why Scar was so bitter. He wasn’t getting NONE from anybody. That’s why he was so damb cranky. Although, a lotta folks think Scar was gay so he wouldn’t be into Sarabi anyway. LAWD!

Another thing to think about (because: doing the most). Was Scar half-hyena? Lions don’t typically have dark hair. Plus Scar was all skinty. Can’t you see the hyena in him? THINK BOUT IT!

In fact, I just need them to come out with a Lion King Tell-All book so they can spill all the tea and I can get my LIFE from it!

Seriously. My childhood has gone with the wind.

Edit: Apparently, this is how lions roll. Still… *wall slides*

I refuse to think about this! Nahla’s mom was a single parent, that’s why she was let into the pride. Sarabi and Musafa, let them in because she was a friend and the family and they knew her boo wasn’t ish! I refuse to think of it any other way!

I hate to ruin your fantasy but nah. I have watched enough Animal Planet and Discovery to know that Lions do not get down like that. When a male Lion take over the pride he will KILL any offspring. He will then sire his own offspring with the female lionesses in order to exhibit his prowess. **SIGH** it was after I was watching one such show that the proverbial light bulb came on in my head and I too was snapped into the reality that yes Simba and Nala are brother and sister.

As far as Scar being “darker”, there were some protests back in the day to the fact that the evil character was dark (aka black people are bad, evil, etc…) and the good characters were all lighter shades and tones. Honestly, I don’t think it got that deep when the Disney team was drawing conceptual characters. I think they just went with the ole, evil is darkness and good is light and rendered that into the characters.

Actually, the entire cast was supposed to be black people – trying to get black men to take back their place of pride in the society. The hyenas were supposed to be the drug dealers and all that. There was a Newsweek (or Time, can’t remember now) article about it when it came out.

Actually hyena were the hispanics. Mufasa represented the civilized Ethiopian masterrace ruling over all (the relatively darker) subsaharan subhumans and Scar represented the darkest niggers, their amoralism and their usurpery attempts based on a false heritage claim [Capoid niggers claiming that they actually had civilization before the white man came when that actually was the lighter Ethiopids (Mufasa) and their rightful heir by blood the caucasoid race (Simba).

I’ll admit though there’s a weak point in my theory. Scar was actually pretty intelligent. What can I say? Poetic license for drama’s sake?

Yep. Heard this. I believe they were siblings. And I believe Scar was gay. I don’t know if he was half-hyena. He coulda just been the darkskin one. Speaking from experience, it can be difficult being the darksin one in a house full of light-brights. Self-hate like a mother.

Let me take it a step further who was Kovu’s (Kiara’s boo thang) daddy? It had to have been Scar because Mufasa was dead and Simba was gone. Which means that Kiara’s parents are also her aunty and uncle and she married her 2nd cousin. Since this all makes me sad, I’m gonna go with the stork drop
    Nahla and Kovu off

Scar was dark because Disney makes all evil characters black. Because you know, black is evil. Disney movies are OD racist if you pay close attention.

    • September 13, 2012 at 3:57 pm

Oh yeah. Disney’s hella racist. That’s well documented.

Aight this is the nerdy response…

More than likely Nala and Simba were siblings considering how prides usually work (One penis limit). The only other plausible (and by plausible I mean pretty much no way in hell) explanations is that
    a. Sarafina, Nala’s mom, was a “single mom” who was kicked out of a former pride and allowed to join Mufasa’s pride

This prolly ain’t happen because if she came to another male’s pride with a baby he woulda killed the baby and got her pregnant again with his seed. Male lions ain’t all your child is my child. Plus it’s kinda rare for prides to accept any random female lion into their group cuz most of the females are kin. I call that the “we don’t know you bish” principle.

    B. Nala was Scar’s baby but was just chillin with Mufasa’s pride.

NOPE! Male lions will hang tough together until they find a pack of females to mate with and the one penis limit and I don’t know u bish principle comes into effect. Mufasa still would have killed Nala even if it was his niece.

Now it makes sense why Scar was butthurt and indignant the whole movie. He had blue balls & thought he was gonna inherit all of Mufasa’s pu**y until Simba came along. ANNNNDD female lions actually prefer dark manes so Scar shoulda been errybody’s daddy! Do u see the injustice?!

PS Lions and hyenas can’t make babies because they’re not in the same scientific family.

    • September 13, 2012 at 5:18 pm

You win. LOL. As a fellow nature nerd, I co-sign. It was also weird that Simba came back and took over the pride he was BORN into….repeating the cycle of incest for another generation. Bruh would’ve been mating with aunties, cousins and all. Oh Disney….

they were the only male lions SHOWN but generally that is how lions are the alpha-male breeds all the females… that’s kind of the point of the alpha-male

  13. Dee
    September 13, 2012 at 6:30 pm

Man I love that movie, but did I miss that they were the only males in the pride? Or is that just what all prides are made up of?

  14. September 13, 2012 at 9:48 pm

It’s all accurate. In part 2, Simba’s daughter falls in love with one of Scar’s cubs; they even describe him as being the stud of the litter.

  15. September 13, 2012 at 10:36 pm

I have always said this. One of the many ways how being a biologist ruins storylines with aniamls. In nature, Simba and Nyla would be siblings or at least cousins.

    Empress Divine is mostly right.

    1. Male lions are known to attack very young Lion cubs (that are nursing) thereby bringing lactating females into estrus sooner instead of waiting around for the cubs to wean before they come into estrus. One thing though, this infanticide by males isn’t as common as we have been lead to think. It happens, yes. But the frequency of the occurrence has been greatly exaggerated.

    2. Male lions defend their pride, therefore their very young offspring. And males sometimes work in pairs or even trios. These male pride leaders are often brothers. AND They would oth have access to the females.
Therefore, Scar would have been all up and through the pride. Smba could have been his or Nyla or any of the cubs. In those situations, males often share paternity.

    3. Prides consist of the females, most of whom are related to each other: sisters, mom and daughters, cousins, nieces and aunts. They are the constants. They stay together. As cubs mature, females stay and males leave. Subadult or teen age males are driven out of the pride by their mothers/aunts. They go off on their own, usually together and hang out for a year or more to survive and rough it on their own.

    4. Males disperse, females are philopatric (stay home). If and when they get big enough a male (or pair of males) will find a new pride far away from their birth or natal group ans challenge the male/s for access to that pride. The reign of a ruling male/s is a year or two. So, the genetic turnover is quite nice.

So, in real life, Simba would have been kicked out the pride anyway, he just got kicked out sooner. Even with Nyla & Simba being likely related (half sibs on the father side) they still could be different enough. Females may only be half sibs or cousins.
Plus, Scar couldn’t have held on to his pride alone and hyenas definitely wouldn’t have tolerated him. Hyenas are so badass in their own right (female dominated hierarchy, females have pseudo penis, and all mean as hell), but a pride of lions will scare off a few hyenas easily. And Simba wouldn’t have gone back ‘home’ to liberate his family. That would mean having sex with his mom, too…..and …there doesn’t appear to be any Main chicks in African Pride. they all would have been Mustafa’s Queens.

One more thing, the color of manes does vary. There are some males with very dark colored manes, like Scar, in nature.

*Lifts head up from table*… So, there is a chance, however slight, that they might not be siblings and my childhood is saved? Yay, science!!

p.s. Notice how I’m ignoring all of the science that states Simba would have been forced to leave anyway.

  16. September 14, 2012 at 6:55 am

its quite possible. matter of fact is likely that simba was with his sister. incest happens in places where we least expect it. for instance adam and eve only had three sons. cain, abel and seth. we are all descendants from them. someone had to do their sister. it wasn’t abel cuz he died. cain settled down and married his sister awan, who had his first son enoch.

you people are nothing but idiots that’s all of you I have to say. Even the damn creators themselves said Scar and Mufasa are NOT the fathers. And you people are supposed to be lion king fans! Look at the commentaries. Nala’s father wasnt a thought they put her there because she was important to the plot of the story. There’s no biological theory going on. They didnt think about the dad you morons. Look it up

      September 26, 2012 at 12:21 am

Come on now, even if she was dropped into the story she still had to have parents and the way that Lion Prides work she was Mufasa’s child. Thats the way the Pride rolls

  21. Shevauna
    September 19, 2013 at 5:01 pm

I totally think it’s one or the other. Either Nala and Simba are half siblings, or Scar is Nala’s father but he’s a deadbeat father. Either theories are backed up by the natural and REALISTIC lifestyle of lions. There is no way in hell that Mufasa would mate with just one female, and was the only one that mates with the females. In the real world, if two male lions are brothers and form a coalition to take over prides, both males would mate with the females. So I wonder which childhood ruining theory it is. I think it’d be slightly better if Nala and Simba were cousins, instead of half-siblings though. LOLLL

  22. August 11, 2014 at 12:08 am

on lion’s real life always there is a dominant male that “gets late” with all the female lions, and if other lion would like to procreate should beat the “lion king”. So, Simba and Lana are siblings.
And Scar seems a lot like a hyena, so I think Mufasa and Scar’s father had a crazy adventure with a hyena or something like that

  23. Anonymous
    August 19, 2014 at 1:51 am

This is possible but I don’t think so. Ok when it comes to lions the odds are higher that a cub will be female. Most prides have AT LEAST 7 members. So that would mean for every 1 male cub born about 6 female cubs would have to be born. If this quota is not met, prides will be smaller, plus there will be a load of prides. If there are more males then the males that aren’t the Alpha become ROUGES. And you do realize that there is such thing as ROGUE males. Some males do not belong to a pride. The Alpha male mates with the lionesses in the pride, but not ALL of them. Lions do not mate for life. Female meets male then they……do their thang…. and the female leaves to have the cub(s) most likely to never see the father again. And this female originally belonged to a pride, and left seeking a mate. Most likely, SARAFINA BELONGED TO MUFASA’S PRIDE, LEFT TO FIND A ROUGE MALE TO MATE WITH THEN WENT TO A SECLUDED AREA AND HAD NALA. SARAFINA BROUGHT NALA BACK ONCE SHE WAS OLD ENOUGH AND MUFASA INSPECTED NALA AND DECIDED TO ACCEPT HER INTO THE PRIDE. BAAAAM!
The only problem was that in lion king, the lions mated for life, unlike the real world. And considering this part of the movie was not accurate
WHO THE HECK SAID LION KING WAS SUPPOSED TO BE REALISTIC!
THE LIONS TALK AND ARE FRIENDS WITH ANIMALS THEY SHOULD BE EATING! So if you want to make it realistic, this is what happened, but in reality, it’s a heart warming movie we all grew up with. It wasn’t meant to be analyzed and broken down into something that ruins your childhood.

As lions become older the mane becomes darker thus allowing for scar to be the older brother of mufassa. He is not half hyena he is just old. Also the tale of his scar lives up to him being old. The more fights a lion is in due to being older, the darker the mane gets…thus explaining he’s been in a least one nasty fight causing his scar.
