Diane Warren Tweets Note About “True Greats” to Kanye West. WELP!

No one can love Kanye West as much as Kanye West loves Kanye West, and that is a gift. I mean, the man’s newest album is titled “Yeezus.” He clearly has high self-esteem and places himself on a giant pedestal only he can see.

Kanye Twirl gif

Just look at him.

Who else could go onstage looking like a giant twizzler or a used tampon and drip this much swagu because he truly doesn’t care about opinions or looking decent? Well, maybe Lady Gaga.

By now, you might have read his New York Times interview that just dropped and it’s full of quotables from ‘Ye. He waxes philosophical about life, love and his place in music history. As expected, Kanye spent a lot of the time talking about how great he is. This quote from Mr. West stands out to give you an idea:

“I think what Kanye West is going to mean is something similar to what Steve Jobs means. I am undoubtedly, you know, Steve of Internet, downtown, fashion, culture. Period. By a long jump.”

Dude compared himself to the man who revolutionized technology and the way we communicate. Chile… I want whatever Kanye’s having. He’s claiming his greatness which is admirable but is it premature? Many will argue yes. Look at this piece that basically puts it out there that Kanye has really never started a trend, and what he does is co-opt others he sees. Read it. It’s great and shadeful.

Anywho, tonight on Twitter, one of the TRUE greats of music, Diane Warren, posted a tweet that had me like OOP! Does the name not ring a bell? She’s the songwriter behind classics such as: Celine Dion’s Because You Loved Me, Aerosmith’s Don’t Want to Miss a Thing, Toni Braxton’s Unbreak My Heart and Monica’s For You I Will among countless others. Her discography is basically a list of Grammy nominated and winning awards in the past 4 decades. Diane is a REAL OG in this game.

But yeah, look at the tweet:

Diane Warren Kanye Shade

WELPY MCWELPINGTON OF WELPCHESTER! Diane basically told Kanye to go have all the seats. My girl Shameeka Ayers (aka The Broke Socialite) said “Chile, when you have gotten on old white folks nerves…” Pretty much. Ms. Warren said (in so many words) don’t talk about it, BE about it. Because the true great ones ain’t gotta tell us. We already know. Real Gs move in silence like gnats!

What we have here is 140 characters of treatage and slight wig snatch. I’m here for Diane.

Oh Kanye. I get it. He wants his roses NOW when he can smell them. He wants ALLA credit NOW NOW NOW but his constant affirmations of his own greatness don’t allow us to give him any credit because he already proclaimed himself the best at everything. And in my opinion, Kanye’s music hasn’t been bout that life since 808s & Heartbreak (but that’s just me. I’m sure most will disagree). He became the person he made fun of in College Dropout and Late Registration.

But I’m sure Kanye fans are somewhere like:

haters gon hate gif

I know. We will.

Did you read the NYTimes article? If so, whatcha think? Also, did Diane’s tweet make your evening like it did mine? Or do you think Kanye DOES deserve to be counted as one of the greats already? Speak your peace.

Kanye needs to siddown and read a Greek tragedy or two and learn a few things about hubris. The genius of his first three albums is undeniable; I’ll even go as far as to call them classics. But since he’s “risen to the top” he’s become the embodiment of what he rapped against. I guess humility can only come from hunger. He’s going to be his own demise, and I’ll have popcorn and tivo ready when it happens.

    • June 13, 2013 at 11:48 pm

I hope Kanye gets it together because I AM rooting for my hometown hero.

        June 14, 2013 at 4:47 am

I don’t foresee him getting it together anytime soon. He’s with Kim K pretending he’s dating Karen that works at Starbucks. Like c’mon fam you KNEW what the hell you were getting into knock it off. All of which has become a total distraction to his art/life methinks.

      June 14, 2013 at 10:19 am

Yes to learning hubris but nawl to classics; his body of work has some good, a couple outstanding but not all “great”.

Oh he’ll be remembered alright, for the attention whore he is. Dis ninja ain’t got one-tenth of the lyrical talent Biggie smalls had, and he finna call himself great? FukOuttaHere. He needs to stay home, have several seats and bake with his community poon of a GF.

Thanks to D Warren for that readage tho!

    • June 14, 2013 at 3:59 pm

Let’s remind or inform Ms Warren that rappers have compared themselves to everything from cartoon characters to God. Jay Hova, Rakim The God MC etc. Im not sure if she understands the culture (get at me Ms Warren I can loop you in).

Stepping away for Hip Hop for one quick second lets just remind everyone what has been said by other artists.

“We’re more popular than Jesus now.”
      — John Lennon

“I am the innovator. I am the originator. I am the emancipator. I am the architect of rock ‘n’ roll!”
      — Little Richard

“I’ve outdone anyone you can name — Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Strauss. Irving Berlin, he wrote 1,001 tunes. I wrote 5,500.”
      — James Brown

Now as far as Kanye calling himself great – so what -Harry Houdini did it. If he (Kanye) wants to compare himself to Bill Gates or Thor why does Diane Warren gaf?

I ask this respectfully also knowing that she has the right to comment on anything that she chooses but I personally don’t think that she gives 2 sh*ts about Kanye West. She’s on twitter brain-farting, oversharing and promoting like everyone else. Contrary to your twitter reply – everybody needs publicity, this is why people hire publicists. Not to take away from her illustrious body of work which I most certainly honor, there is a demo that does not have a clue who Diane Warren is.

OGs (as you put it) adhere to a certain standard – If she wanted to get that message to him, she could have DM’d him or had “her people get at his people” and on some “REAL OG sh*t” let him know that THIS is how the greats do it. This was not about educating him. She wanted to take a public jab like everyone else. DW is well within her right but very corny for an OG Ms Warren. Very very corny. That is, IF you care, if not then its NBFD.

Kanye West is most certainly an innovator. Maybe not what the article points out but he has opened up a new line of research for how Hip Hop is viewed.

Your hometown hero? I’ve never been quick publicly criticize my heroes I am quick to point out the good in them that people may overlook but thats just me.

Sorry to disappoint you guys but there will be no demise of Kanye anytime soon. He is among the elite musicians an artists of this century he will let you know when he is done. Not the other way around.

Hubris’ 2nd definition according to Princeton is: Excessive pride toward or defiance of the gods, leading to nemesis.

Kanye defies everything traditional. Im cool with that cause as a black man in America I hear the word tradition and I run the other way!

pardon any typos – I didn’t put much thought into correcting mistakes I freestyled it in honor of KW

Yeah all those people you mentioned claimed greatness… But they did it very occasionally vs HMK who claims it every 5 mins! They let their work speak it the rest of the time. Your work can’t be that great if you have to remind us that it is. He has diarrhoea of the mouth + diarrhoea of the ego and its gahtdamb tiring. Why cant he STFU, rechannel that energy into improving his work, then let it speak for itself?

Sure, like many others, I didn’t know who Ms Warren was but its understandable she as a songwriter, her work is behind the scenes. But who she is doesn’t even matter, nobody is too big to be criticized and her tweet held no lie.

Miss Diane had apparently had enough and completely & throughly snatched Kanye’s wig.

    • June 13, 2013 at 11:48 pm

OK?!? Miss Warren was THOO! Hit him with that “thanks though!” lol

  3. June 13, 2013 at 11:43 pm

There’s the power of positive thinking, and then there’s whatever Lanvin and unicorn tear-infused KoolAid Kanye’s drinking. That level of self-confidence would almost be inspiring if it didn’t make me cock my head like a reaction .gif from the depths of Tumblr hell.

    • June 13, 2013 at 11:47 pm

Right. I appreciate his positive thinking but ummm…

*sigh*. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Kanye is great. He produces wonderful music, and when he feels like it, he drops some of the best rap lines ever. But the good God in heaven knows that this man is cocky. Yes, he is a big name in hip hop, and yes, he did help to bring about a change in it, in terms of his beats and the way people flow, etc, HOWEVER, he is not even on the cusp of being the GOAT. Not een close. He is not the MJ of rap. He’s not the Steve Jobs. He’s not Zuckerburg. And he wont be. Because he’s so focused on being an icon, that he’s not an icon anymore. IMO, his music isnt as great as it used to be. He’s become watered down, complacent, and hypocritical. If he put as much work into his music as he does in trying to be the next style icon, he could very well be one of the greatest. But Ye just aint been the same since his momma diead, in every aspect. Ion know whats going on with Kanye. He’s overcompensating like a bitch, and sometimes I think he only does things like that to remind himself of why he started in the game in the first place. I’m sure he is well aware of his standing in the rap game, and maybe comparing himself to Steve Jobs is a way to humble himself and motivate himself at the same time. *ye shrug*. Who knows what the hell is going on in that man’s mind though?

    • June 13, 2013 at 11:47 pm

      Speak on it, girl! PREACH!

    • YumYumDumSum
      June 14, 2013 at 3:02 pm

Its so true!!! Ever since this man’s momma has passed so unexpectedly, he has turned into a plum fool!!!
Musical genius? I personally think so– shame on you Luvvie– Dark Twisted outshines 808s. Everything else he “blesses?” Eh– (insert kanyeshrug here.)
I’m hoping the baby will calm him down and being him back to reality, but for some reason I think he’ll become even worse!!!

  5. June 13, 2013 at 11:53 pm

YES MISS WARREN! Kanye has the highest self esteem I’ve ever seen, and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t get on my nerves at times. Margaret Thatcher said, “if you have to tell people are, you aren’t.” As good as he is at what he does, Kanye makes me wonder if he really believes his own words. If you’re talented, you do not have to continue to yell it at people who don’t see it for your talents. They don’t hear you, and those who do, will eventually stop listening.

    June 13, 2013 at 11:55 pm

Lol I love Diane Warren…but also know that her work of classics (to me) is considered sappy and forced emotional records (which I only feel towards Beyonce’s “I Was Here”..which is very much a give yourself roses record ).

    But Kanye doe…

I thought his interview was kind of funny and surrounded by good quotes. I do think he’s a great. I don’t hip hop is legitimized like it should be. There are people who don’t like the genre who still say “it’s not music”. But it is. Kanye is a great rapper with good lyrics..a mix of insight, humor, simplicity, complexity, and storytelling. He’s not the best lyricist, but he’s diverse. He’s also a producer who’s made memorable music from using samples in a great way to adding strings. He was known as the only pop artist for a while to perform with a string section orchestra He’s one of the most important voices in music period. I mean…he made “Jesus Walks” a commercial song, a radio single on a non-gospel station. He brought new life to Jay Z music.

We don’t have enough outspoken people, period. No one brave enough to speak out , even if they’re probably wrong, because no one wants to rock the boat. Yet he gets on live television and says George Bush doesn’t care about black people. What artist would do that? A legendary one. Like he said, he’s connected to every hot talented act of today. He’s worked with Jay Z, Alicia Keys, Brandy, T.I.,Katy Perry, Rihanna, etc .We’re going to remember him for being him and we will remember his music.

    • JessThaRuthless
      June 14, 2013 at 12:05 am

THHHIIIISSSS. I completely agree w/ all of it. As a huge Ye fan, I can definitely say that he will be remembered, if nothing else.

    • April
      June 14, 2013 at 12:54 am

But it’s not just enough to be remembered, what about being respected. I agree with some of your points, Kanye has done some great things with his music, but it’s not like he’s out there building schools, donating to Save the Music programs, etc. Like many said he is beginning to embody the things he used to make fun of. Quincy Jones is legendary, Prince is legendary. Kanye has been out for barely 9 years and wants to be crowned king of the game. I just hopes he finds his way back to the other side

  7. ChloeDanae
    June 13, 2013 at 11:58 pm

I agree with you and Diane. Kanye needs to have all seats and he has turned into exactly what he talked about in his first two albums which made him famous now.I was a big Kanye fan until ‘808s and Heartbreaks’ I understand that he wants to be some whole new other “entertainer”, but he is going about it in all the wrong ways. He needs to get back to his roots in music because he is slowly loosing all his who truly saw him as an artist and supported him when he first came out. To this day “Through the Wire” is a great song. That’s the Kanye we need back in our lives.

Kanye does what he does because that type of behavior gets rewarded in our current society…look at Nene, Kenya and Tamar. Tamar could always sing, but it was only after she went “ratchet” that you hear her on the radio all the time….And Kanye “lives” on Luvvie’s page. So….sadly, Who’s winning? (According to his bank account and the amount of attention he gets…) Kanye is.

    • Sandi
      June 14, 2013 at 7:50 am

I agree with everything Rae said.

I wonder if Diane Warren would say the same thing to Muhammad Ali, who told everyone how great he was/is every chance he got.

      • Allison
        June 14, 2013 at 8:12 am

I also, thought about Muhammad Ali when I saw this

  11. June 14, 2013 at 5:46 am

Ms. Warren’s tweet was the equivalent of what they do down south: Look at him and say “Bless his heart!”

He has gone off the rails ever since his mother died. Remember – he dumped the woman who was in the spotlight to one who did a lot of dancing in the spotlight, then settled for one who lived in the spotlight. He has been walking around angry, moody, and bratty for awhile now. That’s why folks cackled for life when he dinged his head on that sign and got a pretty good speed knot from it.

Kanye, folks cannot root for you if you don’t give them room to do it. Get to the back of your own bandwagon for a little while.

    • June 14, 2013 at 11:21 am

I meant woman who was NOT in the spotlight. Sorry. Was distracted by Kanye looking like Red Candy Crush.

I only had to say iDied at the “Haters gone hate” gif!! Why oh why can you never let me read your posts in secret at work? All of the cackling is dead giveaway. And Diane Warren did throw some first class shade. I love Kanye (chi-town stand up), and for the most part, these days he just always seems unhappy (from the little bit we the public see). I hope he finds what he’s looking for…

  13. June 14, 2013 at 1:04 pm

Kanye needs to sit down and what bothers me most is what he’s doing to Kim. Instead of them making each other better, they’re in a more unhealthy place than ever. Worse yet, an innocent baby is being thrown into the mix? They need Jesus. Stat.

  14. doneinthedark
    June 14, 2013 at 1:10 pm

Kanye West has made a woman who can only claim the world’s most boring-est homemade sex tape as her greatest achievement. An uneducated, talentless, darkmeat chaser is the mother of his child and a girl child at that. Kanye West chose the biggest attention whore, a member of the most look-at-me-I’m-doing-nothing-why-don’t-you-care attention whoring family in the world to be his woman even as he acts like he don’t like all the attention they get from the paparazzi. He don’t know that vacant-eyed chickenhead calls the paparazzi? Or her heifer of a mother does. Anyway, Kanye West needs to go to the Meadowlands and sit in every seat there til Jesus comes back and he needs to take Kim and the rest of them with him.

Died. Dead. And ALLLLLLLL the way gone! This post had me cracking up in my little cubicle. As you said no one will love Yeezy the way Yeezy love Yeezy. And as for Ms. Warren, several standing ovations at that tweet. It’s true, greatness speaks for itself and mediocre behavior sometimes demands what is undeserved. Oh well maybe baby Kimye will bring him down to the level he’s really on….doubt it but maybe.

Diane Warren is not only a great song writer but apparently great at writing tweets, she told him all his ish in one verse and did’nt need a chorus or a bridge.

The fact that Kanye has titled his new album yeezus, says everything you need to know about him as a person and performer. We all know what he is really calling and comparing himself to with the aid of ‘toungue in cheek’ bad grammar. Just like Justin Beiber at the recent awards ceremony he is trying to remind people and himself of what he wishes he could be. Talk about narcissisim (tell me is this is spelt right someone)and delusuions of grandeur.

I won’t even speak on his charade of a ‘relationsip’ with Kim. Those two are a joke and that baby needs prayer for the trials to come.

Why did I start reading you at work? I swear I broke a rib holding in the screams!

Kanye’s biggest problem is wanting all of the accolades NAOW so he can continue to feel awesome about himself now that his biggest cheerleader (may his mama rest in peace) is no longer walking the Earth. When she passed, his self-esteem tanked so far and so fast that he’s putting rocket-booster-sized holes in his reputation to climb back out of his hole. That boy needs some help, STAT. And a stadium full of seats.

I’m so happy I found this website. I just about fell off my chair reading this post! First off the Kanye Gif, then–> “Who else could go onstage looking like a giant twizzler or a used tampon and drip this much swagu…” FLATLINE FLATLINE FLATLINE!

I understand that Kanye had a tremendous loss…TREMENDOUS! Since losing his mother, he’s been seriously disturbed and mentally unstable. With that being said, the fame and fortune has seriously blown up his egotistical head and the more he’s lauded as “a genius artist” the worse he gets, and IMO his music suffers. He’s recording music for “art’s” sake and to me it’s starting to lean towards sounding like a bunch of bizarre, wacko fukery. I really was riding hard with Kanye on College Dropout as well as Late Registration. I guess what they say is right, money allows you the opportunity to be what you truly are, and it ain’t always good.

Kim is seriously quite dumb but she can’t help that, its in her nature. I really feel sorry for her right now, as I don’t think Kanye is really gonna be feeling the daddy role, HE likes to be the center of attention (same as Kim) however, he’ll throw the tantrum or throw up deuces (with shrug). Hopefully I’m wrong! I read somewhere that Kim wanted to name her Kaidance but North was Ye’s idea. He is one controlling pig. I haven’t supported him since Late Registration and won’t, he’s outta control and has lost his damn mind! No thanks!!!!
