It’s Here! My 5th Book Is Out In The World Today!

Y’all…

It’s launch day! My FIFTH book is officially out in the world. 🙌🏾🥹

Little Troublemaker Defends Her Name is here! And I’m feeling ALL the feelings. Joy. Pride. Nerves. Gratitude. Because this one? This one is very special to me. 🥰

This is the story of a little girl who has to defend her name on the first day of school. It’s a love letter to every kid who’s ever felt “othered.” A celebration of culture, courage, and the power of our names.

And would you believe… it’s launching on Teacher Appreciation Day? 🍎🍏 That’s divine alignment. Because one of the main characters in the book is Little Luvvie’s teacher, Miss Millward, who is named (and drawn) after one of my favorite teachers ever, Miss Jessica Millward, who was one of my college professors. She taught a class called “Black women in the United States” when I was a sophomore and that class changed my life.

Miss Millward Little Troublemaker Defends Her Name

Ms Millward

When I told her on a Zoom call that she’s in the book, she literally fell out of her chair from the surprise of it all. And mannn that moment made my heart smile. I wouldn’t be the writer, the speaker, or the woman I am without teachers like her.

This book is for the kids who are still learning to love their names. It’s also for the grownups who remember what it felt like to sit in classrooms where no one got it right.

And it’s for every single Miss Millward; the ones who show up every day to make sure kids feel seen and safe. The ones who change our lives by affirming us in real ways. The ones who take it very seriously that they are part of the village.

So to be able to honor her by making her a character in my book? Mannn top tier moment.

Thank you to the Miss Millwards out there!

THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU, TOO!!!

HAPPY LITTLE TROUBLEMAKER DAYYYY!!!
