Robin Thicke’s Album “Paula” Flops and Goes Toothpick in the UK and Paper Towel in the US
Robin Thicke released his newest album Paula last week and this week, we find out that it only sold 530 copies in the UK. That album went toothpick. Or tinfoil. And in the US, it sold 25,000 copies. At least it went a bit better, going paper towel.
I haven’t listened to it so I can’t speak on the quality of it and whether it’s good but the moment I found out that he decided to name it “Paula,” I knew this wasn’t gonna go over well.

Robin’s public breakup with his wife of 9 years and high school sweetheart (Paula Patton) came after the streets were talmbout how he cheated. And after MediaTakeOut published a picture of Robin feeling on a fan’s butt as they were taking a picture together. It also followed the lawsuit that claims Blurred Lines ripped off a sample of Marvin Gaye’s Got To Give It Up. On top of all that, there was much outcry about the song being rapey because of its sexually aggressive lyrics.
Basically, Robin Thicke’s whole persona at the moment is a crisis communications and public relations nightmare. For this reason, he probably should have thought the release of this album through.
If not even the release date, he should have thought twice about naming it “Paula.” Naming your project after your estranged wife, who is obviously not here for you at the moment, is weird. It’s actually kinda dumb. He’s admitted that he wants her back because she’s the “Love of his life” and he’s on some sort of press junket to convince her that he missed her. I wonder if it wouldn’t be best if he just found some bros to vent to. Someone shoulda gifted Alan Thicke’s son with a journal that has a lock on it and let him cry.

Homeboy needs to write his feelings down in a book, sing them while laying in a tub and then see if he can possibly replicate a 90s video. He’s an artist (and he’s sensitive about his shit. Word to Erykah) so singing about lost love is not bad. Paula being his muse is to be expected. But there’s something just slightly weird about him calling the album that, because it feels like he’s pressuring her to address him.
Also, I don’t think it’s fair to Paula because he doesn’t allow her to heal and deal privately, which is her right. I’d be pissed if I were her. PISSED. Like can I live in peace? IS THAT OK?
So yeah, I’m not surprised that this album flopped harder than a toddler when you try to pick them up and they don’t want you to. Or like this cat:
Robin is outchea getting his Keith Sweat on for this Beg & B album and people are giving him the collective side-eye. I think that’s why his album went bus card.

I’m a Robin Thicke fan from way back (ok, 2006) and I think it’s just weird to name the album after her. He’s trying too hard (publicly anyway) and I’d be so embarrassed if I were her because EV-ERY-ONE is in their business now.
I’ve loved Robin since TEORT and i like him and Paula together but his recent actions are pathetic and I’m falling out of love. Oh and at least 60% of the album is garbage I (tired to) listen to it. Sigh
You addressed my biggest concern: this public crying isn’t letting her deal the way she needs to and is making her mad ALL OVER AGAIN EVERY TIME THE SONGS PLAY! Does he not get that?
Not to mention, it looks like he’s trying to get the public to sway (bully) her into giving him another chance.

That’s what I’m talking about–all this public begging about a private matter is waaaayyyy to persistent. But, then, I wonder why any of us are at all surprised that somebody who “hates these blurred lines” doesn’t understand a durned thing about respectiing a sister’s wishes and giving a woman her space?
Robin used to do blue eyed should really well. Then he hit jackpot with Blurred Lines and became insufferable. Like all idiots with too much fast fame, he decided he could creep on his wife and she wasn’t having it. That should have been his cue to calm down. Instead he goes into begging overdrive. He could have been creative with his heartbreak (ask Gwen Stefani or Taylor Swift). He didn’t. He became creepy. Sad thing is his whole team failed him. I only like the song Get Her Back. He does need to chill for a bit and let Paula work it out without him publicly begging all the time. Had he not made a public spectacle of himself then he would not be in this predicament. He has to give that girl some space.
It sold less than 54 copies in Australia, and I don’t mean 53; I mean the last album that made it on the charts sold 54. OFF THE CHARTS TERRIBLE SALES.

I was just saying that to someone a few weeks ago. She DOES have a career of her own. She’s not JUST Robin Thicke’s wife. But now, because of all his public whining, all people think of when they see her is whether she’s gonna take him back. That’s not fair to her.

He is literally stalking her-he is airing out their dirty laundry and essentially trying to bully her into taking him back. It’s sleeve and I think it’s really creepy. Why not give the woman some time and peace? I feel as if she would be far more likely to take him back if her personal life (and maybe career) were not being dragged through the mud. The public has spoken-sashay away Robin.
The entire press junket makes him look like a passive-aggressive stalker. No chick leaves a dude overnight; Paula must have been tired of his insufferable mess for more time than it took for this begin’-arse album to drop. Fly away, Robin — and then land on a shrink’s seat. Give your wife some time to remember why she could tolerate you in the first place.
What you said. Not letting Paula have peace and shaming her for not forgiving him is low key domestic violence. If she takes him back, “she’s a fool” if she doesn’t , “she’s not being understanding…can’t she see how sorry he is?”. She can’t win! Mostly sad for their kid. His parent’s drama is documented via a terrible collection of songs in perpetuity.

Actually, this all sounds like another example of his “team” not being there for him. Someone on that team is undoubtedly profiting from their misery and encouraging his bad choices.

Robin went from epic to tragic in less than a year. But the one I feel truly sorry for is Paula.
