I’m Doing the 30-Day Writing Challenge. Lawd HEPMEH.

In the past coupla months, folks on these interwebs have been embarking on 30 Day writing challenges. It’s where they make it a point to write/blog EVERY DAY for 30 days straight. Folks like Aliya S. King and The XD Experience have done it and I’ve been clapping for them from afar. On some “YOU DONE GOOD!” tip.

But I’ve stayed away. Why? Because I have very little attention span. 30 days STRAIGHT? No skippies??? LAWDT! That’s so hard. You know how HARD that is???

Well, writing GOOD stuff for 30 days straight is gonna be the hardest thing ever. But I’ve decided to do it. I’MA DO IT, Y’ALL!!! I will do the 30-day writing challenge this month, starting yesterday with my You Know You’re Nigerian If… post.

What made me decide to finally do it? My homienonloversfriends Bassey Ikpi and Nicole Blades are embarking on this journey and I’d love to be on it with them. These are the rules Bassey set:

“Every single day, write something for 30 minutes or one full page. That’s it. If you write for 30 and go over a page— awesome. If you can only eek out one page— beautiful. You did something. This is for your blog, essay, book, whatever! Any writing that you need, want or have to do this is the time to start or complete it. Don’t worry about punctuation or grammar (as I clearly don’t) that can be taken care of in editing. Right now, just write. Write now.”

Get it? Got it? GOOD.

I wanna challenge myself to do this. Besides, 10 is the number of completion or something like that. October is the 10th month. I will start and complete this 30-day writing challenge. Yeah that makes no sense but you will deal. And yes, we know there are 31 days in October, but take Halloween off to put on a terrible costume and eat too much candy.

Have I said how hard this will be? By day 20, I’ma be writing about this hangnail I got and how it sucks. Day 25 will be all about how I didn’t wanna pick up my remote because it was 2 feet away. Y’all are gon be SICK OF ME. And all 25 of those 30 days might SUCK. And I apologize in advance.

Also, this counts as my day 2 post. Sharrap. It does. (-__-) 2 down, 28 to go!

You can follow the hashtag #30WriteNow on Twitter to see who else is participating in this challenge, and @NicoleBlades is giving writing prompts every day with a different theme. Today’s is “TRUTH.” And I already told you mine. I said I was fickle above. TA-DA!!!

Hehehe.

Anywho, who’s gonna join me in this? Are y’all ready for the 30 days of Awesomely Consistent Posts on AwesomelyLuvvie.com??? If you are, GREAT! Cuz I’m not. O_O

I did this when Aliya first presented it to Twitter. Let me tell you, I was on the floor by day four, and I have the post to prove it. But I made it. I kind of want to do it again, but I’m scared. What I will say about being forced to write thirty days straight, it made my writing so much stronger, and I started writing consistently. This is a great challenge for writers and aspiring writers.

    *tap dances* CHALL-UNGE!

Challenge accepted. This is actually right on time. I have a script that I started in August and and have been avoiding and side-eyeing most of September. I need to finish. If I do this challenge, I can definitely knock this baby out by November.

Thanks for the motivation. I’m in.

*tapdances harder, draws line w/ foot* CHAL-LUNJ!!

Agreed. I have a script I’ve been working on since the summer. I need to write. And write, and write. Thankfully nobody has to read it but me until I’m finished.

I’m with you in spirit. I have been following Aliya on Twitter and thought about doing the challenge myself when she first started it. But like you said, it’s a LOT. One day, I really may take it on. I wish you the best with it. It will be a lot for you, but a plus for your followers. 🙂
