Love libraries? Here’s How To Support Them And Me For National Library Week

It’s National Library Week, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE libraries!

In a library is where I got my first ever email address (shoutout to Harold Washington Library in downtown Chicago). And the work that librarians do is thankless! I’ve keynoted both the American Library Association AND the Public Library Association’s conferences too. I stan those enablers of education (and now we all see how they’re under attack, because we live in a dystopian nightmare).

Anywho, I want to talk about one of the best ways you can support Little Troublemaker Defends Her Name and your local libraries.

➡️ Request the book at your library.

Yes, that matters. A lot.

Libraries take note when people ask for a book. It tells them the book is needed. It tells them it’s loved. And for authors like me, especially Black authors writing stories that reflect our names, our culture, and our truth, it makes a real difference.

📚 Here’s how to request it at your library:

  1. Go to your local library’s website (for example, here’s the page to request a book to be stocked at Chicago Public Library).
  2. Search for their “Suggest a Title” or “Request a Purchase” form (they usually have one).
  3. Enter the details for the book:
    • Title: Little Troublemaker Defends Her Name
    • Author: Luvvie Ajayi Jones. Illustrator: Joey Spiotto
    • Publisher: Philomel Books (Penguin Random House)
    • Publication Date: May 6, 2025
    • ISBN: 978-0593694251

You can also call or walk in and make the request in person. Librarians are there to help and most love adding books their patrons are excited about.

This is a small action that creates big ripple effects. It helps parents, kids, and educators discover this story. It keeps our names on shelves. And it’s an amazing way to celebrate National Library Week.

Let’s get Little Troublemaker into libraries across the country.

What city are you in and will be requesting books for their libraries? Reply back and let me know. And if you’re a librarian, tap in too! 👀

PS: It’s not too late to become a Sponsor! We’ve had educators all around the country request books for their classrooms. Help us get books into the hands of kids who need them most by joining the sponsorship train.
