When Your Name Demands a Stand: Little Troublemaker Defends Her Name is Coming!
Many of us grew up with names that teachers mispronounced and kids teased. When I was nine years old, we moved to the United States. I was pushed into this classroom to introduce myself and I immediately knew I couldn’t trust that room with my name: Ifeoluwa.
I knew they were not going to get it right. So I changed my name that day, my first name.
That’s why I’m really excited about my next kid’s book: Little Troublemaker Defends Her Name. My follow up to Little Troublemaker Makes A Mess and this is about little Luvvie.
Here’s the rundown:
It’s Little Luvvie’s first day at a new school and she walks in that classroom and a kid makes fun of her name.
She pops off cause y’all know my girl is gonna have something to say and the teacher hears her. So that gets her scolded and she gets upset cause she’s like, you ain’t even hear what happened to me?
When her mom comes to bring her lunch she asks, what happened? What’s going on? Cause you know, my girl’s feelings are hurt. So Little Luvvie and mom have a conversation with the teacher. The teacher apologizes to her and then the kid who makes fun of her name apologizes to her too. Then they become friends and they have an amazing time. Best day ever!
This book is healing to me because I think about what would have happened if back then I was told your name is a source of pride. Your name is worth defending. When people make mistakes with it, correct them over and over again. It’s okay.
What would have happened if I felt seen and heard in the moments when I felt my feelings hurt over my name? So many of us have all these inner child things that started back then.
This book is dedicated to those of us whose names were not on the mugs or the keychains growing up. It’s dedicated to:
The Luvvies, Ifeoluwas, Bozomas, Rolakes, Wonuolas, LaKeyshas,
Akuas, Glennons, Autoras, Mojis, Kofoworolas.
And to everybody whose name people have ever felt like has been too burdensome.
This book is healing to my inner child because I wish I had it when I was growing up. Honestly, this book is for me. The one who, when her name was made fun of, would just cry on her lunch, quietly in the bathroom. The one who didn’t have the good comebacks back then. The one who was not told, listen, your name is amazing. And they owe it to you to say it full chested. And you owe it to yourself to say it with pride.
Grab a copy, pre order for the kids you love, for your classrooms, for your libraries. I even love this book more than the first one. And I love the first one. Like the first one is lit, but Little Troublemaker Defends Her Name hits a lot different. Listen, this is healing to me. It is now available for pre-order and will be dropping in the world in 2025.
This is the book I needed and still need now because frankly I write these books about little Luvvie who by the way will never be humbled.
Anytime you see Little Troublemaker, she will always feel loved. She will always know she’s better than her biggest mistakes. She will always feel grace. At the end of the day, her confidence will always be encouraged by the people around her. She will always hear that her voice matters. She will always know that she deserves to take up space.
Anytime y’all see a Little Troublemaker book, know that Little Luvvie, she ain’t aspiring to be humble. I want to always show her that I am rooting for her and I always want to show her that she’s worthy. So worthy. That’s my promise.
Showing little Luvvie all the love she deserves
